I totally agree with RayAna. I’d like to add that with changing trends and looking at the folksonomic growth. As designers let us also use our own intellect, experience & research to judge what is best for a site or application.

this is hilarious — i was recently questioning Jakob’s authority on web design after skimming thru one of his (exorbitantly expensive) books. some of the things he says makes sense but I hope people know not to hinge their design principles on this guy’s every word.

This is a good thing. Jakob’s work should edify those who understand how to interpret and apply it, and not be the sweeping edicts that some graphic designers took them to be.
