What is old is new again :)

Comscore has "infected" 2 million consumers PC's in the united states. All those machines traffic is routed through thier servers. Everything you do on the web is recorded, including the position of your mouse etc. This information is then resold for a low starting price of 40 grand. If you pay more you find out any attention data about any major site.

Hitwise.com gets a nightly dump of ISP logs of 20 million users. This information is then processed and sold for $20,000/year. For that you can see clickstream data for any site, demographics, time spent, rankings, search traffic to a site, what words are searched for etc.

This is a HUGE industry, with pretty much every major internet propertly buying this stuff.
