First, I think you have an amazing skill in writing so that it becomes so easy to understand. If I were to explain this piece, it’d end up like programming code.

I think the world is getting more skeptical about big platforms acquiring a mass of users… and then crashing because of a lousy revenue model. So as much as Twitter is focused on growth today, I feel that they ought to at least have plans for revenue… or have plans to when they will start planning for revenue.

Cos judging from how easy it is for people to switch, their revenue model cannot require all users to pay… not even a dollar… So its kinda tricky.

Well, we’ll see.

Of course, generating revenue without alienating those people will be more tricky!

I think it’s worth noting, too, that twitter’s business decisions are often-times in line with user and social practices. To wit, twitter’s quick roll back of the reply feature change — shortly after making the change, and disrupting the conversational conventions that had emerged around use of @name and @reply, twitter quickly undid their feature change. (Many of us were surprised at their surprise with user feedback!)

I still think they have a ways to go on retention and churn tho — design issues of a kind that seem to plague twitter and which are in some ways intrinsic to the platform’s low social utility for new users.
