I think it a bit of both will do just fine but doing so is not always easy.

The problems faced is that too many images to make the site look all flashy and "cool" takes the page longer to load however, if you can get images down to a small size and get the site to be easy to navigate and good on the eye..well then page views will come in hand in hand.

Wanted to know if this holds for transactional sites? For example if I have a property portal and one of my source of revenue(a good chunk) is from advertising. People come to the property portal only if they have a specific task not to network or for pleasure. So I dont want them to find all the information in one page and go away. They are willing to spend time on the site till they get the information (ofcourse easily accessible). The content (the database of properties in this case) is more important than the user experience. Your thoughts please

At Mondus.net, we use a similar approach to Facebook. Rather than concentrating on pageviews, we think it's best to concentrate on 'customer satisfaction'. And by 'customer' I don't mean the advertisers but the users of the site.
Personally I find sites taking me from page to page old-fashioned if not annoying.

Improving navigation and search can also reduce page requests: people spend less time wandering around the site trying to find what they want.
