I'm glad to hear that this concept of designers 'eating their own dogfood' is becoming more popular.

It was drilled in my head in design school that designers know best and we didn't have to mingle with the hordes who would evenutally make use of what we designed.

I've come to find that the only way I can really feel like I know what I'm doing when I design things is to become a user and document my experience from being a newbie to an expert user.

Not only am I better prepared as a designer, but I usually find some pretty cool products and service in the process. Even meet some interesting people.
