You are quite correct,Joshua. Many do believe that more importance should be given to web standrads effect on the designers. To my view a designer and a user may rate a site quite differently. What is important to a designer may not interest a user all that much.
Ever thought that it is the users that bring the revenue to the site? While some of the new technologies may be for the good of the user, others may only end up confusing the user more.So they move away to some other more usable site.Don't want to loose out on your users? I would say give more importance to their point of view.
