Upcoming Talks

This May I'll be giving both a talk and a half-day workshop at UX London. I don't get to Europe all that often, so please make sure we get in touch if you're in the area. I'm really looking forward to this!

UIE Web App Summit

UIE Web App Summit 2009Apr 22-23, 2009
In April I gave a talk called "From 0 to 60" at the Summit about getting your users up to speed using your web application. I was honored to speak at the event I helped produce just a couple years ago. :)

MeshU

meshUApr 6, 2009
In April I gave a talk on "Designing for Virality" at meshU, the workshop day preceding the Mesh Conference held yearly in Toronto, CA. The crowd was excellent, we had a good discussion of ethics of designing for virality/sharing during the Q/A session...lots of interesting contexts arise.

IA Summit

IA Summit 2009Mar 18-22, 2009
In March I co-presented a full-day workshop called “The Architecture of Social Websites”. This is an updated version of the workshop we (Christina Wodtke, Christian Crumlish, and I) gave last year (which went over well). The biggest change is that we added another speaker, Bryce Glass, to lead a section on reputation systems. (see interview with him here: Social Design Patterns for Reputation Systems).

Webstock

Webstock '09Feb 16-20, 2009
In February, I headed down under to New Zealand for Webstock, the Woodstock for the Web Set. I gave a full-day workshop on social design as well as a short talk on Designing for Sign-Up. It was a fantastic conference in a beautiful land. Although, if you go to New Zealand you should plan on staying at least a month...

Web 2.0 Expo

Web 2.0 Expo NY 2008Sep 16-19, 2008
In September I gave two talks at the Web 2.0 Expo New York. First was a half-day workshop on Designing for Community and second was a short talk on Designing for Sign Up. I'm happy to say that my talks were rated highly overall.

d.Construct

dConstruct 2008Sep 3-5, 2008
I traveled to merry Brighton, England for dConstruct and gave a full-day workshop on social design as well as a short talk called Leveraging Cognitive Bias in Social Design. This was a great event...surely the best in England if not Europe.

SXSW

SXSW Interactive 2008Mar 7-11, 2008
I co-presented a panel on designing social interactions. Our wonderful organizers Emily Chang & Max Kiesler couldn't make it, so Daniel Burka and I were able to convince Chris Messina and Todd Sieling to join us and lend their experience designing social systems.

If you're interested in having me present these talks to your design team, get in touch: 508-954-1896
