Creating badass users
Doing great design is as much about being in the right mindset as it is about anything else. Designers need to think about their users constantly…being empathic to their needs and behaviors. They need to continually ask themselves…does this help a user do what they want? It’s a constant challenge that any designer faces every day they work.
In my mind there is nobody better at reframing any discussion toward users than Kathy Sierra. Every time I listen to one of her talks or read anything she’s written, I come away more cognizant than before about how to best focus on users. Below is one of her more recent talks, given at the Business of Software Conference in 2013, on how to create what she calls the “minimum badass user”. It’s a great talk…highly recommended.
