Here’s an Idea…

  1. Go to your favorite blog.
  2. Find the email address of the owner.
  3. Email them and tell them what you think.

I’ve done this about 5 times over the past few days. I got to thinking while I was in Seattle last week meeting folks whose writing I truly enjoy that I don’t really tell them that. I mean, they could die tomorrow and never know that I really appreciate what they’re doing. For all they know, they might be like one of the three folks in Garden State yelling into the gorge.

All five times have been rewarding. I don’t always get a reply, or I get one indirectly, but at least they know that even though I’m lurking I do appreciate the work they do. It only takes 30 seconds.

Have you gestured a hug toward a blogger today?

What a transparent cry for love. Actually, as usual, you’re right on. Every time I’ve done that, it pays off. And in case I get hit by a bus tomorrow – I love you Josh! (well, your blog anyway)

Darn, I knew that would happen. I actually rewrote this several times to try and get the right effect across, and I still ended up sounding like I needed a hug. Well, I do, but that wasn’t my point. Thanks though, Doug!

What I really wanted was for more of an appreciation to spread…lots of folks are doing great work out there, helping to smarten us all up, and not getting much credit.

I’ve been trying to share more of my “Note” type links lately, even if they only take me 20 seconds to make, just to kind of share with others the bloggers that I’m reading currently.

It’s not often that I have an overt reason to link to them in one of my own posts, but I still feel like pointing to others…after all linking isn’t the only gesture we have…

Ok. I’m being too sappy now. I’m done.

Better sappy (you) than snarky (me). Keep up the great work. (
