An Introduction to Web 2.0

Update: After one day we’re up to 20 in the most popular list. Let’s hit #1. We’ve already leapfrogged the other Web 2.0 Squidoo pages, but we can do better. To get to #1 we need to do two things. You need to help me with feedback and promotion of the page…send along your suggestions, comments, concerns in the comments here and link to the page if you can (only link if you find it valuable - don’t like simply because I asked). Then I’ll aggregate the comments, figuring out a judicious way to make changes ( I can’t add everything) . If we can do that, the content will grow more valuable and drive us up the ladder. We’ll be our own Web 2.0 example. ( end update )

I haven’t seen a quick and easy introduction to Web 2.0 yet, so I created one over at Squidoo:

Introduction to Web 2.0

My goal in creating this was to provide a snapshot of resources for those folks trying to get a handle on this whole Web 2.0 Thing.

I’ve tried really hard to include the most popular, comprehensive works on the topic. It was extremely hard to whittle down all the things I’ve read into this short list, but this is a good start, I think. In the coming days I’ll revise and rework the page as necessary, based on feedback from the likes of you and others.

I’m looking foward to any recommendations, comments, or concerns you may have. Please let me know what you think!

Great lens on web 2.0! Squidoo is indeed powerful, but I’m not all into the ones you have to go cloak and dagger in. Tiff :)

ABOUT

Bokardo is the blog of Joshua Porter, a web designer/developer, researcher, and writer. I live in Newburyport, MA, USA.

WHAT IS SOCIAL DESIGN?

Social design is design that focuses on the social lives of users. It deals with the activities, behaviors, and motivations of people who work and play together through software interfaces. It is built on the observation that many of the decisions we make are greatly affected by those we surround ourselves with in our social lives: our family, friends, and colleagues. Exploring our motivations and how to design interfaces to support them is what the Bokardo blog is all about.
