Going to SXSW

by Joshua Porter  |   16 Comments

This will be my first trip to the venerable SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin. If any of you, my fair readers, are attending I would love to meet up and chat. Drop me a line via email or in the comments…

Of course, we wouldn’t chat about blogging…probably more along the lines of Texas BBQ and beer. :)

Ahh you’re in for a treat if it’s your first SXSWi. I went last year for the first time and it was the coolest conference I’ve ever been to, I can’t wait for it this year.

Will probably see you there at one of the parties…

Will be good to put a face to the blog!

Well, you won’t have any trouble chatting about blogging. It sometimes seems like no one talks about anything else at SXSW.

Ahh, SXSW - should be a good time, I’m still figuring out exactly what shows to go to. It will be a blast no matter where you end up.

Giddy up. As an Austinite I’m biased, but I think SXSW/i by far gives you the best geek bang for the buck.

Oh yeah, and get a Burnet Road from Taco Shack (breakfast) and a Chipotle Bacon burger from Jackalope (late-night). They’re both just blocks from the convention center, and both will change your life.

Enjoy it for the rest of us who won’t be able to go. :-)

This year will be my second SXSW. I have to admit I didn’t enjoy last year’s very much. The presentations for the most part tended to be less informative than I would have liked, and as a nondrinker I didn’t really feel at home at most of the social events (particluarly not knowing anyone there to begin with.)

I found April’s An Event Apart in Atlanta much more valuable - I wish the Boston AEA wasn’t in the same month as SXSW.

Lance, well you’ll know me. Let’s meet up and have a soda…despite my quip about beer in the post this will not be a party event for me, although I do plan to attend a social gathering or two.

I have, however, found that much of the learning that happens at events usually happens while picking someone’s brain in the hallways…

Looking forward to meeting you next week. Great post about the “Five Principles.”

“Lance, well you’ll know me. Let’s meet up and have a soda”

Sounds good.

“I have, however, found that much of the learning that happens at events usually happens while picking someone’s brain in the hallways…”

Moreso at SXSW than other conferences I think.

ABOUT

Bokardo is the blog of Joshua Porter, a web designer/developer, researcher, and writer. I live in Newburyport, MA, USA.

WHAT IS SOCIAL DESIGN?

Social design is design that focuses on the social lives of users. It deals with the activities, behaviors, and motivations of people who work and play together through software interfaces. It is built on the observation that many of the decisions we make are greatly affected by those we surround ourselves with in our social lives: our family, friends, and colleagues. Exploring our motivations and how to design interfaces to support them is what the Bokardo blog is all about.
